First thing first, is it even important to write in a junk journal? It's not. If you are someone who likes to write, or who wants to improve their writing skills, you will enjoy jotting down some words along with junk journaling. But if writing is something you'd rather be away from, you can simply cut, paste, draw, or collage, and skip the writing bit.
I would, however, recommend that you write even if it's a few sentences. Because even those two lines will be good practice. After all, a leave application, or an official e-mail, also involves writing.
Now, there is no single categorization of what kind of writing can be a part of it. That's the best thing about junk journaling- there are no rules, there are no rights or wrongs. You can write a complete story if you want, a poem, a picture description, a memory, a one-line quote, or just a favorite word.
Do I write first or do the craft first?
You can either write first, and then do the craft around it, or you can do the crafting first, and then write whatever you want to around it.
Should the write-up match the pictures/ drawing?
It is not necessary to do that. But yes, if the text and the picture match, the theme will definitely come out better and will make you feel good. Else, the mismatch might keep nagging you.
Where to write?
Again, no rules for this either. Some options you can try are:
-Write on one page, and do the craft/art on another.
-Before you start, plan and allocate spaces where you'd specifically write text only.
Another interesting hack is, that you can fill spaces with text. Once you have finished crafting or drawing, and if you feel there is some space left, you can always fill it with text. You can rant about anything, or simply copy some text from anywhere.
