How to begin Junk Journaling? | Junk Journaling for Beginners

If you are reading this, you've probably seen some junk journals, and it has inspired you to make something of your own. But how do you begin junk journaling?

Before you start, you need to keep one thing in your mind- there are no rules in journaling, you are not here to create a masterpiece or to be a Picasso. The process should make you happy, you should like what you make, and then you should continue and be better at it.

Hope the pep talk helped, now Let's begin!

1. Start with simple doodles

Take any notebook or diary that is available with you. Start with few doodles here and there. Color them if you like.

Doodles are also a great help when you want to fill an empty space or when you run out of journaling supplies or ideas.

For reference to easy doodles, you can follow this Pinterest Board,

2. Bring out some supplies readily available with you

If you are just beginning, it is likely that you don't have a lot of material available with you. Click here for a list of few things that you most certainly have, and that can be beautifully used in journaling.

Over time, you'll naturally start collecting things that you can use.

3. Plan (optional)

Now that the doodles are in place, and you have your craft material, you can give 10-15 minutes to plan what kind of a journal you want to make, how you want to place the different materials, and where do you want to leave space for writing text (that is if you want to write at all).

For ideas and inspirations, you can also look at some junk journaling examples. And even if you want to copy some initially, it's fine. That's how you'll learn what works for you, and what doesn't.

4. Time to paste!

Tear or cut whatever you want to, but be a little considerate in how you paste it. Pasting random cutouts in completely fine, but pasting them randomly might not bring out very good results. So, give a little thought there. Try arranging shapes and colors that would look good together.

If there are any spaces left, and you want to fill them; you can either write (anything you like) or you can draw some more doodles.

Lastly, remember, it's your journal. You can make it however you like it. If you don't want text, don't write. If you want to use only one color, do that too. Want to write or draw a memory? Do that. Want to share how the day was? Share.
